hey everybody, I have been thinking of joining a league, but I don't know if I am good enough yet. How high should my average be before I join a league?

Re: Bowling leagues
Sun, October 14, 2007 - 8:14 AMThere is a league for everyone. You should talk to the people at the alley you want to bowl at and ask them which would be the best league for a novice. Almost all recreational leagues are handicapped--usually 80 or 90%--so there is always an equalizer. Having said that, you would not want to join a league where the average average was 200 if you were a 120 bowler, even if it had an 80% handicapped league. You also do not want to get on a team with hyper competitive people who are going to get mad every time you miss a single pin spare in the tenth frame in a clsoe game. A good indicator of the seriousness of the league is how expensive it is to bowl each week and how much the payout is at the end of the season. The more expensive and higher payouts will almost certianly mean more serious bowlers. Generally speaking, the leagues where you get a free ball at the end of the year instead of a tiered payout based on place finish are the least competitive.
Leagues are great fun for bowlers of all levels so ask the people at the alley.

Sun, October 14, 2007 - 10:30 AMThanks Donny, I'll go check out how the league is at my favorite lane. Right now I am about a 160 bowler, so I think I'll take your advice on a pretty easy going league. Thanks again! -
